Celebrating #EOday, as a proudly employee-owned business

It is the 11th annual EO Day on 23rd June 2023, bringing together thousands of employee owners, businesses, and supporters from across the UK to celebrate the benefits and impact of employee ownership. 

This year’s theme is #TheEOeffect, highlighting how employee-owned businesses are more productive, more resilient and rooted in their local areas and communities – and how we are more strongly engaged with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) issues. 

In just a couple of weeks’ time, we look forward to celebrating the third anniversary of the creation of our Employee Ownership Trust (EOT) which now owns Environet for the benefit of the trust beneficiaries, our loyal workforce – and what a three years it has been!  

In that time, we have doubled our turnover, grown our staff numbers and consolidated a new leadership team, allowing our founders to begin to step back.  

It has been especially important to us to ensure that being an employee-owned business was communicated loud and clear through social media, videos, and many other channels.  

This has certainly contributed to attracting the ‘right’ kind of talent when recruiting new employees, with values aligned with the company’s, from day one. 

Elise Hollinshead, who has been working with us as Marketing Manager for over 7 months, was even more attracted to joining Environet when she found out about the trust.  

‘The idea of working for a company which clearly cares about their employees and truly invests in them long term was exciting. I was instantly attracted by the concept of working with a team of people who, as result of that trust in them, seemed more entrepreneurial and committed to the company’s success, treating it as their own, at all levels of seniority.’ 

We are also preparing to launch our Employee Council, which will give staff a platform to share ideas, and feedback with the leadership team and know that they have been heard, helping us grow a more equitable and collaborative culture.
