South Wales Evening Post – Knotweed warning as plant reappears

Japanese knotweed new shoot

Published on Thursday 7th April 2016 in the South Wales Evening Post.

This article discusses how the mild and wet winter will affect knotweed growth. Swansea has been considered a knotweed hotspot, so residents need to be aware that the knotweed growing season has begun, as new shoots have been spotted. It is estimated to cost around £9 million a year to tackle Japanese knotweed in Wales.

Various legislations are in place to help control the knotweed problem, such as ASBOs. Sellers also now have a legal duty to disclose whether the property is affected by knotweed.

Following a degree in Environmental Science from the University of London and a few years spent working in engineering, I started Environet in 1996. Since then it has grown to become one of the major players in the field of invasive plants, including Japanese knotweed and bamboo. Recognised as one of the UK's leading experts in the field, I have secured patents for many innovations relating to the treatment of Japanese knotweed. “We had a large stand of bamboo removed, thinned, contained and replaced. The customer service has been first class. Joe and Jason were fabulous and kept me well informed at all times”.
